Worldwide Amalfi is known for its glorious past and its sea, but few know the nature reserve "Valle delle Ferriere”. It thus kept unchanged over time its microclimate keeping intact plants of past times. Botanists, in fact, know this natural reserve for the presence of a rare plant in Europe, the Woodwardia radicans .
Just between Pontone and Amalfi, traversed by numerous little streams, there is a unique woodland in which the ruins of medieval foundries are buried. The ruins of the medieval foundries can still be seen. The final stage of the walk, takes visitors past a number of water powered mills, which once produced Amalfi's famous paper.

Si entra a contratto con la natura. AMALFI Only a few people, have visited its charming jewel in Amali: the natural reserve called 'Valle delle Ferriere'. Botanists know this reserve thanks to the presence of a plant which is very rare in Europe, Woodwardia radicans: it is a so-called living fossil, that lived during Tertiary age. This is a very important example of pre-glacial age; the reserve is also the habitat of different kinds of orchids and of a small carnivore plant, called Pinguicolahirtiflora, a plant that lives eating small insects.
